MUSEUMS
The
Royal Cornwall Museum in Truro (01872 272205) houses an extensive
mineral collection, including the Rashleigh Collection, one of
the finest 18th century mineral collections in the country. Permanent
displays of Cornish minerals can be seen in the Rashleigh Gallery.
Helston Folk Museum (01326 564027) also has a fine collection
of minerals from the Lizard Peninsula. Bodmin Museum (01208 77067)
has a small but varied collection of rocks, minerals and fossils
including the famous Delabole Butterfly. Ring for opening times
and any special events. It is vital to support these remaining
museums: sadly The Cornwall Geological Museum in Penzance and
the Camborne School of Mines Geological Museum & Art Gallery
have now closed their doors. However, the good news is that the
Camborne School of Mines has developed a 'virtual museum' for
the Cornubian Orefield which can be found at www.ex.ac.uk/geomincentre.
